The Challenge

Due to the design of the buildings and materials used during construction (concrete, steel and Low-E glass), many hospitals suffer from poor mobile signal.

Since construction in 2015, the Emergency Department in the hospital has suffered from poor mobile phone signal across all four major networks. This can have a detrimental effect on both staff being able to carry out their daily duties as well as patients not being able to communicate with family, in what is often a highly stressful time.

The Solution

Following an initial consultation period, Boost Pro engineers carried out a signal test survey and created a heat map showing the signal strength through the full department.

Following this, the team designed a hybrid DAS consisting of 2 x external antennas, 4 x network units and 16 x coverage units. This system improved all four major networks – O2, EE, Vodafone and Three – through the full department.

Due to the fast-paced, and ever-changing environment of an emergency department, careful planning was required with a number of stakeholders to ensure no disruption was caused to the smooth running of the department.

This project leverages our licence-exempt Hybrid DAS Signal Booster. This product benefits from:

✓  Scalable All-Digital PoE Cat5e Active DAS Hybrid for Middleprise
✓  Up to 100 dB (1000x Stronger Signal)
✓ 3G / 4G / LTE Voice and Data
✓ Multi-Carrier Support with Carrier Switching
✓ Indoor / Outdoor NEMA 4 Rated
✓ Network Safe

The Results

– All four major networks improved from zero to five bars – O2, EE, Vodafone and Three.

– Patients and their visiting friends and families can now use their mobile phones to make calls and access the internet from the comfort of their rooms.

– Doctors, nurses and all other staff members can use their mobile devices to assist them in carrying out their duties.
