The Greenlaw Works - East Renfrewshire Council

Mobile Connectivity Improvement Project

The Greenlaw Works, Newton Mearns

East Renfrewshire is one of 32 council areas of Scotland. The East Renfrewshire local authority was formed in 1996, as a successor to the Eastwood district, with the Levern Valley being annexed. East Renfrewshire has borders with East Ayrshire, Glasgow, Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire, and North Ayrshire.

The Council places a great deal of emphasis on supporting the growth of SMEs in the area, with many initiatives including the opening of The Greenlaw Works – a new space for small businesses and collaborative business events. The Greenlaw Works provides:

  • Dedicated offices for 2-10 people
  • Fully furnished with phone line, mailbox, and IT package
  • Co-working lounge for startups and freelances, with dedicated desks
  • Meeting rooms with presentation and conferencing facilities
  • Car park with EV charging points

The Challenge

As with many modern buildings, with sustainability-led design in construction (including Low-E glass), The Greenlaw Works suffered from poor mobile signal across both floors. Home to many small business owners,  East Renfrewshire Council was quick to act to find a solution and ensure that tenants could make important business calls while working in the business centre.

With vast experience across many building types, including offices, Boost Pro successfully tendered to provide a solution to improve the mobile signal for all four networks across the full building.

“This confirmation of funding is welcome news for supporting East Renfrewshire’s economy post Covid-19 enabling us to improve transport links, support business development, increase leisure opportunities and create jobs. City Deal investment has already enabled business opportunities and job creation through the construction of The Greenlaw Works, a new business centre at Greenlaw in Newton Mearns and commercial units at Crossmill Business Park in Barrhead.

Tony Buchanan, Leader of East Renfrewshire Council

The Solution

Following a detailed survey and testing period, the Boost Pro engineers designed and deployed a passive DAS to improve all four networks (O2, EE, Vodafone, and Three).

High-gain directional antennas were installed in order to maximise the donor signal and ensure optimal performance of the system.

This project leverages our license-exempt Passive DAS Industrial Signal Booster. This product benefits from:

✓ 3G / 4G / LTE Voice and Data
✓ Multi-Carrier Support with Carrier Switching
✓ Indoor / Outdoor NEMA 4 Rated
✓ Network Safe
✓ 5G ready

The Results

Both floors of the building now receive strong and consistent 3G/4G voice and data coverage across all four networks.

Tenants and staff now benefit from health and safety, productivity, and operational advantages of being able to use mobile devices within the building.

Our products are license-exempt and fully comply with Ofcom’s UK Interface requirement 2102 (IR2102) (UK) and ComReg S.I.No.283 of 2018 (Ireland).
