Background
FirstGroup is Britain’s largest bus operator, running more than 20% of all local bus services. A fleet of nearly 9,000 buses carries some 2.9 million passengers a day in more than 40 major towns and cities. FirstGroup also runs passenger rail services in the UK. Passenger rail franchises consist of Avanti West Coast, Great Western Railway, South Western Railway and TransPennine Express. It also operates Hull Trains, a non-franchised open access passenger train service. FirstGroup operates tram services on the London Tramlink network carrying approximately 24 million passengers a year on behalf of Transport for London. First Group recently moved their Sheffield office to The Square building in Sheffield’s city centre.

Now legal to use on all UK mobile networks due to recent changes under the Wireless Telegraphy (Mobile Repeater) (Exemption) Regulations 2018.
The Challenge
Boost Pro Systems were contracted by First Group to design and install a repeater system which would enhance the mobile signal strength for EE, their corporate network provider.
Due to the modern design of the building and the materials used, large parts of The Square suffer from little to no mobile phone signal. With First Group being located on the ground floor of the building, this magnified the signal problem.

The Solution
Following an onsite survey and consultation period with the IT team from First Group, Boost Pro Systems installed our office grade solution to ensure all sections of the office were covered. The turnaround time from onsite survey to installation was two weeks.
The Results
– All areas of the office now received LTE voice and data coverage across EE (as well as relevant MVNO’s).
– Increased communication between the Sheffield staff and the rest of First Group
– Productivity increase for all staff.
